'Gin & Juice'  Group Show

 .

Ivory & Black Soho proudly presents “Gin & Juice,” a group exhibition featuring new work by

Andrew Schoultz
Cleon Peterson
James Jean (featured above)
Richard Colman
and Ryan Travis Christian

The first group exhibition at Ivory & Black and the first time all of these artists are brought together in London, this marks an exciting time for the contemporary art scene. “Gin & Juice” celebrates the start of summer with fresh works from this troupe of young artists. In a visual playground, the vibrancy of these works questions the perception of the world around us. Ranging from the macabre to the playful and bright, the underlying humor in their works is a glimpse into the Californian subcultures they hail from. Steeped in dreamlike yet dark imagery, the work displays a sense of idealistic naivety but also deals with issues of sexuality, violence and disorder.

Opening reception with the artists: June 15, 6-9PM

He's been on everyones radar for quite some time now, more recently due to all the media he's personally received. Tom Sachs is one weird, yet unique artist. It was no surprise that Nike would collaborate with him.

Born from the dynamic between Tom Sachs' D.I.Y. aesthetic and the wide reaching Nike brand,
comes an artisanal capsule collection, NIKECraft.
We are blown away. Will hit 1948 London on May 18th, and DSM from the 23rd.

Pedro Matos

- \ Heritage / -

Ivory & Black Gallery London Soho
April 27 - June 9
Opening Reception Friday April 27 6-9pm

With a stellar lineup of contemporary artists, Ivory & Black see their second exhibition (since opening this year) celebrate the work of Portugese artist Pedro Matos.

Ivory & Black Soho proudly presents “Heritage”, a new exhibition by Pedro Matos, which embodies the artist’s much anticipated first solo exhibition in London. “Heritage” features a new series of oil paintings on canvas and one site-specific installation.
Pedro Matos’ paintings feature a rich and complex layering consisting of different languages of painting, which combine texture, patterns, realistic figurative painting and text. Through this visual language, his work draws the viewer into a dialog surrounding the impermanence of social and cultural values. In the artist’s own words, "Through this exhibition I am trying to question my personal and cultural heritage, and how these values and conditions evolve and change over time in our society..”. Inspired by the french philosopher Michel Foucault’s work, subject to his paintings and explorations are the themes/concepts of Knowledge, Power, History, Sexuality, Discourse, Episteme and Impermanence. The exhibition will also comprise   the release of a limited edition artist’s book of Pedro Matos’ work and life.

Pedro Matos is an Artist and Curator born in Santarém, Portugal in 1989. Influenced by the sub-cultures of Graffiti and Skateboarding he was immersed in, Pedro started painting at the age of 16 in Lisbon where he attended studies at both the Faculty of Fine Art – University of Lisbon, Ar.Co Art Centre , and later decided not to complete his academic education.
After completing a painting course at Central Saint Martins, Pedro went on to pursue his career in London, where he currently lives and works.  His work has been exhibited at numerous galleries and museums across the world, such as the University of Arizona’s Museum of Modern Art, Philips de Pury in London, White Walls gallery in San Francisco and Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles.  Pedro Matos also works as a curator and was responsible for shows in Lisbon, London, Atlanta and Miami, having also recently co-founded Ivory&Black Soho in London.

-
We look forward to seeing his works. See you there!

Anton Zolotov Solo Exhibition

.

Hannah Barry Gallery - Peckham location

Opening Reception Friday March 30th - 6.30 - 9pm

________________________

A chronicler of contemporary American experience, Anton Zolotov’s latest paintings are provocative and lyrical collisions of images, objects, forms and ideas.

Zolotov is a Russian-American artist living in New York, and his work condenses the familiar tumult of city lifeinto stable, austere geometrical figures.

The integration of found and trash objects allied to the appropriation of abstract, ideal forms challenges the artificial separation of art from life. Equal inspiration is here taken from the formal innovations of early modernism and the aesthetics of throwaway consumerism. The effect is a precarious balance, a seductive combination of the ideal and the mundane thatreflects our own impure experience of the world.Several of the assemblage paintings have the flavour of a palimpsest, with the detritus of post-industrial urban existence simultaneously obscured and preserved by the paint that glues it to the canvas. The ephemeral is thus conserved in paint, a neat twist on the painter’sconventional efforts to immortalise. The artist has expressed his determination to be “an idealist and a storyteller at the sametime”, and these works reflect the complexity of his, and our own, experience of the world around us.
